Living a better life—fuller, freer and healthier—is possible, no matter what your struggle may be. At The Well Recovery Center, our mission is to be the starting point for your new life—the place where you take your first big leap forward, and start the transition out of your old life and into your new one. As such, we are pleased to provide men and women with a number of holistic services that include dual diagnosis detox.

Dual diagnosis is all about getting to the bottom of what is really holding you back. It is about distinguishing the underlying causes from the symptoms. Many of our clients come to us struggling with addiction but also with mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, or even trauma. Through dual diagnosis care, we help our clients find their own path toward freedom.

What is Dual Diagnosis?

shutterstock_265901390To understand dual diagnosis, you must first understand the concept of co-occurring conditions. Those who struggle with alcohol or drug addiction quite often struggle with related mood disorders, as well. These are called co-occurring disorders, and they make clinical treatment difficult, as the symptoms of one condition can sometimes obscure the presence of another. Dual diagnosis care is about identifying each separate illness, and arriving at a holistic, integrative treatment plan that addresses both—opening the door to a brighter and better chapter in your life.

Dual Diagnosis Symptoms

No two people are totally the same, and neither are any two dual diagnosis cases. The one overarching principle is that a dual diagnosis includes drug and/or alcohol addiction and a mood disorder of some sort. Beyond that, individual symptoms may vary. With that said, some common co-occurring disorders include:

  • Extreme anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Frequent or severe depression
  • Lingering stress from a previous trauma
  • Physical or sexual abuse during childhood

Sometimes, drug or alcohol abuse presents as a response to these conditions—as a form of self-medicating. However, this is not always the case, often the different conditions are rooted in the same issue of brain chemistry or trauma

We provide compassionate care that is rooted in strong clinical practice, and we also offer our clients a tranquil, Zen-like environment to focus on finding inner peace and wellness. Ultimately, we want our clients to be healthy—in mind, body and spirit. That is what underlines our holistic approach.
